Music West's Mission Statement
“Music is the sound track of life. Music enriches and adds to the quality of our lives in so many ways. Important moments become forever linked with music. Music inspires passion and fuels dreams. Music plays such a powerful part in our lives, yet more and more music is disappearing from our public schools. Budget cuts are eliminating music education programs. Students are being denied the opportunity to pursue their musical interests and develop their deeper appreciation of music.
The power of music education develops and enriches student’s lives; it teaches discipline, patience, critical thinking, and team work. The effects of music study on math scores were tested to prove that those who did not study music had lower math test scores than those who did. Teaching music is immensely rewarding. I can’t think of anything else I would rather do than teach and play music!
Music brings beauty and value to our lives. It is the most beautiful language in the world and a universal one. A prime example is student summer orchestral programs... in which students from different counties, speaking different languages, playing for example: Brazilian music, composed by a French composer, and conducted by an Italian conductor, need not understand words. The moment the music begins they know how to play together.”
